Who We Are

Healthy Petaluma is working to make southern Sonoma County a place where everyone has access to equitable health and wellness services. As a community-owned and -operated public agency, we've been dedicated to ensuring Petaluma has access to a quality acute care hospital with emergency services and fostering a healthier community for over 75 years.

What We Do

Healthy Petaluma is here for you. We’re here to listen to the people and organizations of southern Sonoma County to identify the community's health and wellness needs, so we can foster more equitable access to health and wellness services. We’re here to bring community partners together to take action – whether it be developing policies, providing a new service, or working for changes that will improve the overall health of our community.  We work with Petaluma Valley Hospital operator to seek compliance with its obligations under the hospital Asset Purchase Agreement.

Resources

Our work is guided by the latest professional assessments of community health needs in our area. Check out our resources to learn more about the state of community health in the Petaluma area and beyond.

  • Petaluma Valley Hospital

Petaluma Valley Hospital was sold to NorCal HealthConnect, a secular subsidiary of Providence, on January 1, 2021. The viability of our community hospital and its service to our community is our number one priority with the sale. While Providence announced the closure of the Family Birthing Center, effective May 1, 2023, we have been actively working with Providence to reopen the unit, which is contractually obliged to remain open for a minimum of 5 years.

  • Youth and Young Adult Heart Screening

Healthy Petaluma, in partnership with the County of Sonoma, Kyle J. Taylor Foundation, and Santa Rosa City Schools District, will be offering a free youth and young adult heart screening event Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Elsie Allen High School in Santa Rosa. The screening is open to all Sonoma County residents ages 12-25 and is designed to detect undiagnosed heart defects that can lead to sudden cardiac arrest and death.

Healthy Petaluma District Board Study Sessions

Healthy Petaluma will be holding a series of study sessions at our monthly board meetings between September 2023 and March 2024.  Each session will be focused on one of the following priority areas:  Women’s Health, Senior Needs, Mental Health, Youth Services and Housing.  The hour-long session will include introductory information from panelists, remarks from board members and most importantly, an opportunity for the public to share their insight on community need.

These study sessions will provide the Board with meaningful information to consider as they determine how best to invest the proceeds from the sale of Petaluma Valley Hospital over time to improve overall community health and wellbeing.
